Storm season is here · Open 24/7
Is your roof ready for winter?
Yorkshire winters bring gales, driving rain and hard frosts — exactly what roofs fail under. A small problem sorted in November is a quick repair; the same problem in January usually means water inside the house. Here's what to look for.
Seven things to check this winter
Missing or slipped tiles
Look from the ground for gaps, tiles out of line or bits of tile in the garden after wind. Every gap is an open door for rain.
Ridge tiles that have moved
A ridge tile sitting proud or leaning means the mortar has failed — the first storm lifts it off.
Cracked pointing and flashing
Mortar around the chimney and lead flashing shrink and crack in frost. Gaps there leak straight onto bedroom ceilings.
Gutters overflowing
Gutters dripping over the edge or sagging are blocked or coming loose — overflowing water soaks walls and finds its way in.
Flat roofs holding water
Puddles still sitting on a garage or extension roof days after rain mean the fall has gone and the covering is tired.
Heavy moss
Thick moss holds water against the tiles, freezes in cold snaps and lifts the edges — and it all washes into the gutters.
Damp patches after rain
A brown mark on a ceiling or the top of a wall that grows after wet weather is your roof telling you it's failing.
Spot something? Here's what to do
Never climb onto a roof yourself — wet tiles and frost are lethal. Call us instead. We'll inspect it safely, photograph everything we find, and give you a free, no-obligation quotation for any work. If the damage can wait, we'll tell you honestly; if it can't, we'll sort it before the next storm.
If a storm hits overnight, we're here
Tiles down at midnight, water coming in on Christmas morning — it happens, and we answer. We're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across Doncaster and all of Yorkshire. We make the roof safe and watertight first, then quote for the permanent fix. See our 24/7 emergency roofer page.
